Attendees at the Austin Food and Wine Festival did get a little Taste of Texas. Thunderous showers threaten the weekend but soon faded away, and it was show time. Here’s some photos of some of the best things at Taste of Texas. Thanks to the festival for having me as media this year.
Best cocktail invention goes to Hendrick’s Gin. This thing is a whopping masterpiece that pours spirits into a series of glass bows and drips it into a serving beaker. I love it, and I want one. It is part functional, part art, and 100% fun.
Spiciest dish goes to Mala Sichuan Bistro in Houston. The cold yet spicy peanut buttery noodles were perfect for the humid weather.
Most interesting dessert service goes to Mixtli Progressive in San Antonio, and their corn ice cream served in a corn husk cone. The ice cream was really, really, really good too.
Meat on a stick - if you count a bone to be a stick - was the Louie Mueller lamb chops. The lamb was exceptionally tender, and well, things on a stick are pretty awesome.
Fuzziest Chef photo goes to Chris Shepherd and Tatsu Aikawa. That’s what happens when you’re trying to keep your camera dry from the rain.
